On the first day of January you can brave the cold water by taking a chilly plunge down the water slide at the Aquatic Center. This Arctic Chill Polar Bear Swim is free to the public and spectators are welcome. Once the goose bumps have died down, you will have your name added to the Polar Bear Club Plaque. There will also be cocoa and coffee available to soothe away the shivering. This event is sure to provide some exhilarating fun in Santa Clarita.

If your looking for some nature-related fun in Santa Clarita, then the New Years Day Hike is the perfect choice. The hike begins at 9:45am and starts at the Walker Ranch Trail head. Then, hikers will take the Los Pinetos Trail up to 3N17, following it all the way to Wilson Saddle. Total Mileage is about 5 1/2 miles with about 1000 ft. gain. Make sure to bring snacks, lunch, lots of water and wear boots with good tread. Also, bringing a camera is a good idea as there is sure to be lots of picture perfect opportunities.

Another great option for fun in Santa Clarita is the Grey Whale Watching Cruise. On Friday Jan. 2nd and Saturday Jan. 3rd, you can participate in Southern California whale watching at its finest.  December through April is the prime Grey Whale migration period, making January the perfect month for an unforgettable whale watching experience. Crew members give a full narration during the cruise and are available for questions during the trip. The cruise will take place on the Nautilus, which has an indoor snack bar with beverages and snacks available for purchase. The Nautilus also has both indoor and outdoor seating, and the whales can be viewed from the top observation deck. This provides great photo opportunities. Breathtaking views make up the backdrop of this fun filled event for the whole family.

One last bit of fun in Santa Clarita is ice skating at the Holiday Ice Rink at Westfield Valencia Town Center. Although the snow isn’t falling, you can still feel like you are in a winter wonderland thanks to the fun of this outdoor ice rink. The ice rink features real ice, skate rentals, and a magical atmosphere for skaters of all ages to enjoy. Make sure to experience the excitement before the skating season ends January 11th.
