The 4th Annual Santa Clarita Valley Pacific Islander Festival

Beyond the coast of California lies a multiplicity of islands, each unique with their own colorful cultures, customs and histories. Once a year, Santa Clarita Valley invites locals and visitors in a cultural immersion of the Pacific Islands. This weekend, the 4th Annual Santa Clarita Valley Pacific Islander Festival is taking place! For two days, attendees can experience Pacific Island food, arts, and crafts, all together at the William S. Hart Park in Newhall.

The festivities take place over two days: Saturday, May 6th, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM and Sunday, May 7th, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Hosted by Kalakeke Pacific Island Dance Company, SCV Pacific Island Culture & Arts Inc., The Friends of Hart Park, and William S. Hart Park, the event’s mission is “to share the culture of the Pacific with the community.” From Hawaii to Tahiti, New Zealand to Samoa, vendors will represent their nation through merchandise, cuisine and dance. One such example is the Santa Clarita Ho`olaule`a. This Hawaiian celebration features authentic hula dancing, ono grinds, and games. Sponsored by the Polynesian dance company, Leiali`inani Academy, come see all the action on May 6th, at 6:00 PM.

Fortunately, the SCV Pacific Islander Festival is a free entry event. On-site parking is available for a payment of $2, payed by cash only. All parking proceeds go towards The Young Marines and Friends of Hart Park. On the other hand, free parking is available along Newhall Avenue. So, carpool the family over for a fun day and night of Pacific Islander culture and entertainment!
