Santa Clarita Weekend eventsThere are several free Santa Clarita weekend events that you should definitely take advantage of.  From 11 am to 2 pm Saturday at the Santa Clarita Valley Family YMCA is a community Family Picnic. This is a free event for kids and parents alike. Families can enjoy a picnic-style barbecue with old-fashioned summer games such as potato sack races and a watermelon eating contest. What better way to ring in the summer season then good ole family summer fun.

Concerts in the Park are always enjoyable Santa Clarita weekend events worth checking out. At 7 pm Saturday at Central Park, there will be a performance by country artist Marie Wise-Hawkins. She has won local and state competitions and has played some major country venues include Big Gig at Summerfest and Country Showdown. If you’re looking to meet new people and make long-lasting friendships, the Walk and Talk is a great place to get to know your neighbors, and it’s free!

If you love to dance or are interested in learning how, The Domestic Violence Center of SCV hosts the Dancing with our DVC Star event. There are professionals dancers that direct training sessions for various dance styles, such as hip hop, swing, line dancing and Latin. The event is from 7 pm to 11 pm Saturday at the Elks Lodge 2379. Tickets are $25 and will serve as proxy votes for the SCV’s Dancing With Our Stars event in August. The Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center also hosts a variety of plays, concerts and performances. Saturday July 18 at 6:30 pm the D’Wilfri Danceart and Entertainment will be performing The Art of Dance: The Hidden Language of the Soul. This is a vibrant and eclectic  show you don’t want to miss. Tickets are $25, $30 or $40. Next weekend, the Broadway musical Mary Poppins will be showing at the Santa Clairita Regional Theatre.
